Articling at Koffman Kalef

What We Do

Koffman Kalef LLP is a mid-sized law firm practicing in select areas of business law, specifically:

  • Commercial Real Estate

  • Corporate / Commercial

  • Lending / Insolvency

  • Litigation / Dispute Resolution

  • Securities / Corporate Finance / Mergers & Acquisitions

  • Tax / Trusts

We understand the value and importance of collaboration and mentorship in the legal profession, and have structured our articling student program to encourage these activities.

We offer one student position per year. This affords the student’s principal the time to provide quality mentoring opportunities, and encourages the student to work with lawyers from a variety of professional backgrounds. It also allows us to provide flexibility in the student’s experience, such as, where possible, tailoring experiences to the student’s practice area of interest.

What you will Do

You will work closely with your principal, and be involved in work similar to that of a junior associate lawyer. You will gain practical experience, having the opportunity to be involved in a variety of business transactions.

You will be involved in a variety of tasks in support of all areas of the firm's practice, including:

  • Providing general legal support to lawyers (drafting legal memoranda, agreements and other documentation)

  • Creating due diligence summaries of contracts and performing due diligence searches

  • Assisting with transaction closings

  • Conducting legal research

  • Assisting with court applications

You will also work with the firm’s librarian to learn research methods using a variety of legal and industry-related electronic and physical resources.

Who WE Are Looking For

Ideal candidates are team-players, energetic, and determined individuals who are eager to learn and work hard. They are professional, courteous, and diligent. They understand that we leave our egos at the door, and recognize that it takes a strong team, working towards a single goal, to succeed.

Applicants should have a strong interest in areas of business law. Attendance of PLTC prior to commencing articles is preferred.
