Professional Experience: 

Stan is a founding partner of the firm and a senior member of the Banking and the Commercial Real Estate Practice Groups. He is senior legal counsel for the British Columbia Commercial Real Estate Finance Group of a major Canadian chartered bank and regularly represents them in the financing of acquisition, construction, term and syndicated loans. Stan also has extensive experience acting for developers and investors in the acquisition, structuring, development, financing, leasing and disposition of office buildings, residential high rises, townhouse complexes, shopping centres, mixed use developments, strata title and air space parcel developments and land subdivisions. With the assistance of local counsel, Stan has acted on real estate transactions involving properties located in other Canadian provinces, such as Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and in the United States.

Stan has drafted and negotiated numerous loan agreements, commitment letters, mortgages, security agreements, leases and shareholders, partnership, joint venture, trust, construction, purchase and sale, and other commercial agreements. He relies extensively on his business education and background to assist him in negotiating these agreements on behalf of his clients in a practical and efficient manner.

Stan has been cited a number of times in the "Big Real Estate Deals" section of LEXPERT, a leading Canadian legal periodical. He has been a guest lecturer for the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia and has conducted educational seminars for the account management training program of a major Canadian chartered bank on the financing of commercial real estate.

Representative transactions:

  • Acting for lead lender and administrative agent on $125 million syndicated construction loan to finance the development of an Ontario residential high rise condominium project
  • Acting for lead lender and administrative agent on $102 million  syndicated construction loan to finance the development of a British Columbia residential high rise condominium project
  • Acting for lead lender and administrative agent on $74 million syndicated construction loan to finance the development of British Columbia office/retail project
  • Acting for a Canadian chartered bank on hundreds of construction and development loans for some of the most prominent real estate development projects in British Columbia
  • Acting for local non-institutional lenders on numerous mezzanine and other real estate secured loans
  • Representing borrowers in the  negotiation and financing of numerous business and real estate loans
  • Acquisition, joint venture structuring, financing, development and sale of over 500 strata titled residential, office and retail units and a hotel in The Crystal Project, Burnaby Metrotown, which at the time was one of the most complex and largest airspace title developments in Canada
  • Counsel for the co-developer of three of Vancouver’s largest and most prominent mixed use downtown development projects – Living Shangri-La, Woodward's and Fairmont Pacific Rim
  • Land assembly, financing, strata title development and unit sales on behalf of an overseas developer of The Emerald, a  227 unit Richmond residential condominium towers project
  • Strategic planning and development of Aberdeen Square, a 200 unit Richmond strata titled air space parcel retail/office development
  • Recent acquisitions and dispositions of numerous residential, retail, industrial and office buildings and development sites for a prominent local real estate investor/developer
  • Counsel for an overseas investor on their British Columbia real estate joint ventures and partnerships

Volunteer Community Involvement:
Stan helped found the Burnaby Metro Selects Soccer Club, where he served as a manager of select soccer teams. He also helped establish the Britannia Support Society, a not for profit charitable organization dedicated to the advancement of the education and extra- curricular activities for less privileged inner city students. Stan served as a director, chairperson and head of the fund raising committee of that organization.
